SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can send a malicious RTP packet to Cisco Unified IP
Phones 9900 Series, in order to trigger a denial of service.
Impacted products: Cisco IP Phone.
Severity: 2/4.
Creation date: 30/06/2015.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The RTP protocol is used for the transport of multimedia streams,
for instance voice over IP.
However, when a malicious packet is received, a fatal error
happens, and the phone does not answer anymore to requests.
An attacker can therefore send a malicious RTP packet to Cisco
Unified IP Phones 9900 Series, in order to trigger a denial of
service.
