Insight UK comment - Cisco 2017 Midyear Cybersecurity Report

July 2017 by Lee Nolan, Solutions Director for Insight UK

Lee Nolan, Solutions Director for Insight UK has provided a comment on this:

“By 2020, the number of internet-connected things is predicted to reach over 50 billion. Right now, most Internet of Things (IoT) devices aren’t in your home or on your phone, they are in factories, businesses and healthcare. Indeed, Cisco’s 2017 Midyear Cybersecurity Report points towards a simple truth – from large enterprises to start-up, organisations of all sizes should consider each device as a doorway to your company’s network. This means the more devices that are bought and used outside of the physical workplace, the more opportunities and ‘doorways’ open to malicious attackers. And with the ongoing threat of cyber-attacks looming, it has never been harder to protect your business.

It’s important that businesses do not let security concerns deter them from enabling greater flexibility and mobility. For businesses and employees looking to stay secure whilst working remotely, it’s wise to put in place an end to end security plan which covers all aspects of the security continuum. By saving and securing data across your entire infrastructure, be it cloud, on-premise or hybrid, organisations can minimise the risk of becoming a victim of ransomware. This is especially important as this is where online criminals do their worst – successfully infecting your system and taking data hostage.”
