Vigil@nce - Linux kernel: use after free in the usb-audio driver
March 2016 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can force a double free in the usb-audio driver of the
Linux kernel, in order to trigger a denial of service, and
possibly to run code.
Impacted products: Fedora, Linux.
Severity: 1/4.
Creation date: 15/02/2016.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The Linux kernel includes a generic device driver for devices that
comply with the MIDI interface.
However, in case of error, the function snd_usbmidi_create() frees
an objet describing the MIDI interface, although this freeing is
already handled by a caller function. The net result is a double
free.
An attacker can therefore force a double free in the usb-audio
driver of the Linux kernel, in order to trigger a denial of
service, and possibly to run code.
