Vigil@nce - Libav: integer overflow of av_lzo1x_decode

July 2014 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can generate an integer overflow in the
av_lzo1x_decode() function of Libav, in order to trigger a denial
of service, and possibly to execute code.

Impacted products: Debian, MBS, Unix (platform)

Severity: 2/4

Creation date: 27/06/2014

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The Libav library implements the LZO compression algorithm.

However, if data contains a null byte, an integer can overflow in
the av_lzo1x_decode() function of the libavutil/lzo.c file.

An attacker can therefore generate an integer overflow in the
av_lzo1x_decode() function of Libav, in order to trigger a denial
of service, and possibly to execute code.
