October 2015 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can invite the victim to install a malicious
application on an Android phone, which connects to the AnySupport
mRST, in order to perform privileged operations.
Impacted products: Android Applications not comprehensive.
Severity: 2/4.
Creation date: 26/08/2015.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
A mRST (mobile Remote Support Tools) is an application installed
to perform administrative tasks on Android phones. They are
usually installed by the phone manufacturer. A local application
can connect to the mRST, after presenting a valid X.509
certificate to authenticate. The Certifi-gate vulnerability class
describes authentication errors, allowing a direct access to mRST.
The mRST AnySupport is vulnerable to Certifi-gate. Indeed, an
attacker can present a special certificate, in order to access to
this RST.
An attacker can therefore invite the victim to install a malicious
application on an Android phone, which connects to the AnySupport
mRST, in order to perform privileged operations.
