Synerway launches its latest software version with many major new features

Synerway, French software vendor, pioneer of the backup appliance announces its latest version with increased performance, strengthened security and enhanced performance, usability and compatibility with Windows and VMware environments. With Synerway version 4.5, users possess a mature and powerful data protection solution.

The Synerway Virtual Appliance (SVA) can now be extended beyond 2 TB
The Synerway Virtual Appliance (SVA) can now use several virtual disks for data storage and disk space is no longer limited to 2 TB and can be extended with additional virtual disks on the ESX or Hyper-V host. One virtual disk is reserved for the Appliance system software and at least one either disk for backed-up data storage.
New virtual disks can be added after the installation when it becomes necessary to increase backed-up data storage capacity. This new software evolution means the SVA greatly increases flexibility.
Optimised network externalisation features
The NExt (Network Externalisation) feature has been significantly enriched to better handle network outages. The reaction to a network outage during externalisation is faster as is data resynchronisation after the network returns.

Improved operating system security
New algorithms and new internal partitioning mean disk space is filled more efficiently and this reduces the impact on Appliance activity.
Universal Bare Metal Restore protection can now be encrypted using encryption keys chosen by the user.

Reworked mastérisation procedures
You can now reinstall a Synerway Appliance ("remasterisation"), and keep all previously backed-up data and only reinstall the Appliance’s operating system. This improves usability during administration or maintenance procedures.
A new, ergonomic user interface
Specifically designed for users who do not require advanced features such as block mode protection, the new ergonomic interface is more intuitive for supervising the Appliance, starting backup jobs, manage media or perform data restorations. Many tasks can easily be performed to final users who are now autonomous to restore lost files from their work environment with no particular IT skills.
This interface is available via a web interface or via an embedded application from the Windows “Start” menu. The standard administration interface remains accessible for clients with wider operational and administrative requirements.

The Appliance boot procedures have been accelerated for greater operational comfort.

New: support for Windows 2012 (R1 and R2) and Windows 8 and 8.1
Complete server protection for Windows Servers 2012 (R1 and R2) and Windows 8 and 8.1:
- The “basic” Windows agent backs up all chosen files and folders.
- The additional Universal Bare Metal Restore agent backs up the entire Windows system for Disaster Recovery purposes using Synerway’s unique "One-Click" easy-to-use technology now available for all users.
VMware environment enhancements
Integration of VMware Tools in the SVA (virtual appliances):
It is now possible to install VMware Tools on Synerway Virtual Appliances (SVA), to simplify their integration in the VMware environment.
Improved Ultimate for VMware agent:
VMware environment backup operations are now more rapid particularly if many VMs are protected.
