Sophos Live Protection Anti-Malware to provide additional anti-virus protection to Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways

February 2011 by Marc Jacob

Sophos announced that Juniper Networks has integrated Sophos Live Protection Anti-Malware into the Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways for the Branch to protect customers proactively from viruses, spyware, and Trojans. The integration will be available with the Junos operating system 11.1 release, Q1 2011.

Sophos Live Protection Anti-Malware draws from up-to-date intelligence from SophosLabs, a global network of threat analysis centres, through cloud look-ups of URLs and checksums that deliver effective protection against real world threats, including traditional viruses and infected Websites, with minimal impact on unified threat management (UTM) performance such as CPU, memory, and storage.

In 2010, SophosLabs analysed 95,000 pieces of malware every day, nearly doubling the number of malware pieces tracked in 2009. This accounts for one unique file every 0.9 seconds, 24 hours per day, each day of the year. Additionally, compromised legitimate websites can introduce malware and scams. In fact, SophosLabs analyses 30,000 new malicious URLs every day – approximately one every two to three seconds and up to 70 percent of these are legitimate websites that have been hacked or compromised by cybercriminals.

Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways provide the essential capabilities necessary to connect, secure, and manage enterprise and service provider networks, and consolidates security, routing, and switching services in a single device. Leveraging Sophos Live Protection Anti-Malware provides Juniper’s SRX Series with a lightweight solution that proactively and efficiently stops malware, including viruses, spyware and Trojans at the gateway and in many instances, blocks threats that traditional endpoint security suites do not catch, with a minimal impact on system performance (CPU, memory, storage). By using an innovative blend of on-the-box and in-the-cloud techniques to spot threats, users can have a great, responsive networking experience without sacrificing threat coverage or accuracy.
