The City of Edinburgh Council, UK is set to achieve savings of £190,000 per year following the launch of its new website which provides easier ways for users to make payments, request information and ask for help. While there is a one-off cost of £210,000 for creating the new website, there will be significantly lower annual costs for software licensing, support and hosting compared to previous systems.
The above is a real life case example of how cities can use ICT technology to improve customer services and achieve cost savings and greater efficiency. Online transactions can be 100 times more cost effective than face-to-face interactions and minimise errors.
