Napatech announces Intelligent 10G PCI-Express Gen 2 Capture & In-Line adapters

April 2010 by Marc Jacob

Napatech announced 2x10 Gbps Intelligent Real-time Network Analysis adapters based on PCI-Express Gen 2 with the introduction of the NT20E2 Capture adapter and NT20E2 In-line adapter products. The NT20E2 In-line is ideal for applications that require both capture and transmit in real-time, such as Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) and Policy Enforcement applications operating at 10 Gbps line-speed. This is complemented by the NT20E2 Capture adapter, which provides full 20 Gbps packet capture throughput over the PCI-Express Gen 2 bus.

The NT20E2 Capture and In-line adapters provide an impressive list of features for pre-processing, off-loading and accelerating network appliance performance. Both products are based on a low-profile form factor with SFP+ modules and PCI-Express Gen 2.

Key features for the NT20E2 Capture adapter include:

Full throughput 20 Gbps capture and analysis
Zero packet loss no matter the packet size
Near-zero server CPU load
10ns precision time-stamping of received packets
Hardware time synchronization based on GPS, IEEE1588v2 or CDMA
Merging, dynamic slicing and de-duplication of traffic
Advanced packet classification with intelligent identification of flows
Flow filtering and intelligent distribution to up to 32 CPU cores
Zero-copy DMA transfer to host memory with cache-hit optimization
Ethernet, TCP and UDP checksum verification
Supports libPCAP and PCAP applications (e.g. SNORT)

Key features for the NT20E2 In-line adapter include:

Full throughput 20 Gbps capture, analysis and re-transmission
Zero packet loss no matter the packet size
Near-zero server CPU load
Advanced packet classification with intelligent identification of flows
Flow filtering and intelligent distribution to up to 32 CPU cores
Zero-copy DMA transfer to host memory with cache-hit optimization
Ethernet, TCP and UDP checksum verification and generation
Transmit of packets according to individual packet time stamps
Configurable Inter-Frame Gap (IFG)
10ns precision time-stamping of transmitted packets
Supports libPCAP and PCAP applications (e.g. SNORT)
