Following the news about how British retailers will lose millions of pounds to online fraudsters this Christmas, please see below comments from
Richard Brown, Director EMEA Channels & Alliances at Arbor Networks.
“The news that British retailers will lose millions of pounds to online hackers this Christmas highlights the continual evolution of threats to every aspect of our digital lives. What’s particularly shocking however is that according to research from the Ponemon Institute and Arbor Networks, 38% of retailers only rely on ‘gut’ feel to determine whether they have been targeted by an advanced threat. The retail sector in particular is a favourite target for attackers, with web application cyber-attack campaigns an increasingly common problem due to the amount of high value transactions online.
“Retailers must be on their guard, looking out for any suspicious activity this festive season to avoid becoming a victim of an attack or a ransom. What’s becoming essential, especially for organisations with high-value targets, is having the ability to detect and contain threats quickly – even when they make it past the perimeter defences. This isn’t all about technology – although having the right tools helps – people and process are key in this.”
