Comment from Fujitsu: Online retailers braced for biggest cybercrime Christmas of all time

November 2015 by Bryan Campbell, Lead Threat Intelligence Analyst, UK and I, Fujitsu

In light of the news today from ThreatMetrix that over Christmas, retailers could lose millions due to an increase in cyber-attacks, please see below comment from Bryan Campbell, Lead Threat Intelligence Analyst, UK and I, Fujitsu:

“The news that ThreatMetrix has detected 45m attempted attacks against online retailers in the last 90 days is an urgent call to arms for retailers to get their online security measures in order – especially in the run-up to Christmas. In an omnichannel world where retailers must protect and secure their systems across mobile and desktop to name but two, it’s vital they take a proactive approach to security. During the Christmas peak trading period, usual traffic will likely be confused with DDoS traffic, and as a result it will be difficult to identify unusual traffic that may be related to an attack. Retailers must focus on the integration of threat intelligence and other information sources to provide the context necessary to deal with today’s advanced cyber threats. Implementing a strong security education programme underpinned by a robust security framework will allow retailers to get on the front foot in combating these types of threats, ensuring this ‘Cybercriminal Christmas’ doesn’t come to pass.”
