Bull launches GCOS7 V12 for its large mainframes

October 2013 by Marc Jacob

Bull has announced the launch of version V12 of its GCOS7 operating system. The new version guarantees the sustainability and continuity of Bull’s mainframes designed to support the core computing requirements of large businesses and public sector bodies.

Whether it involves modernizing government or boosting corporate competitiveness, GCOS7 mainframes are at the very heart of process computerization and infrastructure consolidation initiatives. This latest version of GCOS7 has been developed to address the new challenges and requirements brought about by these fundamental changes.

GCOS7 V12 has been designed to deliver extended capabilities in data management, transaction optimization and the number of transactional users that each system can support, as well as additional functionality for intensive production. Depending on the context in which the system is being used and the available resources, the new version of the OS expands processing capacity by between 50% and 100%.

GCOS7 V12 supports the PostgreSQL Open Source database, which can be accessed by Java applications. It addresses organizations’ growing demands to optimize their IT infrastructure costs at a time when budgets remain very tight but there is also an explosion in electronic exchanges and transactions. GCOS7 V12 has been optimized to utilize the full power of the GCOS 7000 series of mainframes, equipped with Intel® Xeon® processors.

“GCOS7 V12 responds to our customers’ growing demands as they face the challenges of modernization and intensive production,” commented Jacqueline Moussa, Enterprise Systems Director at Bull.
