Asigra Positioned in Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Disk-Based Backup and Recovery

February 2011 by Marc Jacob

Asigra Inc. announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the 2010 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Disk-Based Backup and Recovery, based on evaluation of the company’s edge-to-core cloud backup platform, Asigra Cloud Backup™.

According to the report, “In 2010 [Gartner] saw a trend toward increasing consideration of a cloud-based recovery implementation. In selected cases, large-enterprise server data is being moved to a cloud-based backup/recovery solution, but the predominant amount of interest has been for midsize enterprise servers and branch-office and desktop/laptop data; in the large enterprise, the most common implementations have been for remote-office and desktop/laptop data. Gartner worldwide survey data suggests that, in future years, cloud-based recovery solutions will increasingly be evaluated by organisations of all sizes.”

Over the past several years, Asigra has added powerful new features to its cloud backup software platform for public, private and hybrid cloud deployment. Key attributes include:

· Agentless backup architecture - Asigra does not require any agents to be installed on machines or applications that need protection, instead it reaches out over the network to back-up operating systems, file systems, and applications, using industry-standard programming interfaces.

· Military-Grade Security - Due to the multi-tenant nature of the cloud environment, security becomes a paramount concern of anyone trying to utilise the cloud for backing up and recovering their data. Asigra ensures that backup data is not at risk of breach with encryption in-flight and at-rest from cradle to grave. To validate this, Asigra is the first major backup vendor to achieve FIPS 140-2 security certification.

· Global Data Deduplication - Data reduction happens at Local Area Network (LAN) level, and at a global level across all LANs and laptops.

· Backup Lifecycle Management with Tiered Recovery - Operationally critical data requires more frequent backups on higher performance devices. Less critical backups are relegated to less expensive, lower performance devices. Asigra allows users to align the value of information with the cost of protecting it and provides multiple tiers of recovery for maximum flexibility in determining the right mix between fast and cost-effective data recovery.

Beyond its software, the company continues to experience strong partner growth and customer deployments with double-digit customer adoption worldwide as well as a significant rise in MSP and VAR alignment with its platform. Further, Asigra has extended its global footprint with major partners including NetApp, HP, Terremark Worldwide, and a growing number of regional service providers across six continents. The company has also expanded its presence in Asia Pacific and China with a dedicated GM for the region.
