ARSENE TAXAND choose Synerway Data Backup and restoration solutions

ARSENE TAXAND is France’s number one law firm specialising in fiscal affairs and founder member of the TAXAND international network (50 countries, 400 associates and 2000 tax specialists). Created in 2004, ARSENE TAXAND provides a high level of service in their respective areas of expertise. With 18 associates and 54 tax specialists in Paris generating a turnover of €30m, ARSENE TAXAND helps its clients to anticipate risks and optimise company fiscal policy within an international environment. Ali Bentabia, IT Manager for ARSENE TAXAND, was happy to talk about the backup and restoration solutions implemented with Synerway.

SYNERWAY: Why did you choose Synerway solutions?

Ali Bentabia: A few years ago, I had worked for an IT consultancy firm on data storage and backup issues. I was looking even back then for a disk–based Appliance solution which could externalise to tape. Synerway was a pioneer in this domain and the only player providing this service. When I arrived at ARSENE TAXAND, I had to re-examine the backup solution and I chose Synerway, having already tested it. It remains for me the best backup and restoration system on the market today.

SYNERWAY: How does Synerway handle your data protection today?

Ali Bentabia: I had already installed a DXL6000 Appliance back in 2009. I wanted to perform incremental disk backups for all my data and take snapshots of all critical data every 30 minutes between 7 am and 10 pm plus an externalisation of all data each weekend to be kept for 12 months and a second externalisation at the end of each month to be stored for 5 years. With this solution, I was therefore able to restore data with only 30 minutes of potential loss over the last 48 hours and on a daily basis over a three-month period, a weekly basis for one year and a monthly basis for 5 years.

The Synerway installation had all the elements we required: a snapshot module, a CDP (Continuous Data Protection) module and tape externalisation. The advantage with the Synerway solution is that it can grow over time providing long-term peace of mind. For example, an Appliance with 3 TB of storage can evolve on demand. Last year, we upgraded our solution to an Appliance LA32000L with 32 TB of storage to back up our mail server, SQL databases and file system data. We virtualised our infrastructure and 15 days later, the Synerway backup system integrated and interfaced with Veeam’s Backup and Replication software to back up all our VMs.

SYNERWAY: Are you satisfied with Synerway services?

Ali Bentabia: Yes, absolutely. I’ve never known the Synerway Appliance solution to fail when it comes to restoring data. I believe Synerway has many advantages. First and foremost the fact that Synerway owns its solutions and is able to handle all support issues. Compared to other market players with inexistent Hotlines more often than not located abroad, when you open a ticket with Synerway, you genuinely feel like you are a customer and not an anonymous caller. My support contact at Synerway, Jérôme, knows our infrastructure very well and solves tickets very rapidly. For me, a backup and restoration solution should work perfectly and automatically 99% of the time. The remaining 1% must be handled urgently and Synerway’s added value is to be there when you need them. I will continue to work with Synerway because of this and expect them to continue investing in R&D and in new technologies.
