Young’s Seafood drops anchor with LANDesk

July 2013 by Marc Jacob

LANDesk Software announced that Young’s Seafood, the UK’s leading frozen fish brand, has signed a contract to deploy LANDesk’s Total User Management solution. The Solution will help to transform and secure Young’s IT operations and support by automating software management and facilitating control of all end user devices from one central point.

Gary Allwood, IT Lead Service Delivery and Operation Support for Young’s Seafood commented, “The LANDesk Solution has been implemented as part of Young’s IT services transformation. It will improve our IT support capabilities by allowing user self-service, automating software management and facilitating control of all end user devices. This in turn will improve service levels whilst also freeing up time from routine everyday matters and allow us to focus on other strategic initiatives, continuing to align IT with our core business priorities.”

LANDesk’s Total User Management solution gives businesses a dashboard for user control, management, security and support whilst maximising the productivity of employees anywhere, anytime, regardless of device or application. The Solution is user-centric, rather than device-centric and allows businesses to purchase just one licence per employee rather than per device. The Young’s Seafood team are using Total User Management to support employees on both mobile and fixed devices, but also to automate common support processes and manage software licenses. It is by integrating Total User Management into its IT operations that Young’s is delivering the User-Oriented IT vision throughout its organisation.

“With the launch of the new Young’s IT organisation and services, it was important that our technology aligned closely with and empowered our business as a whole,” said Bill Dougan, Principle Transition Consultant for Young’s (Blue Prairie Consulting). “By carefully managing the risk of automating business support processes and prioritising how the solution can provide business efficiencies, we are working towards optimising our computing environment in areas such as software licenses. The LANDesk Solution was up and running in three months, which also greatly accelerated our return on investment.”

Since purchasing LANDesk Total User Management in early 2013, Young’s has consolidated its IT Operations Management functions to create a ‘one stop’ Web portal that allows the team to track and manage every device on their network as well as handling user requests for change. One immediate benefit is that users no longer have to wait for software updates to be rolled out; instead they are instantly and automatically installed, improving efficiency for the employee and reducing administration for the IT department.

“The impact of multiple devices per user is having a huge effect on businesses and many are struggling with their management,” said Nigel Seddon, Area Director, LANDesk Software. “It is imperative that organisations can maintain the services and software updates expected in a secure environment, as well as quickly understanding if anything fishy is going on. Without the right solution, this can add a great deal of cost to the organisation, but we are thrilled to be working with Young’s to help them overcome this challenge and bring truly User-Oriented IT to their organisation.”
