Wolverhampton Girls’ High School Enables BYOD With Xirrus’ Wireless Arrays

November 2012 by Marc Jacob

Xirrus announced the deployment of its Wireless Arrays at Wolverhampton Girls’ High School (WHGS), a prestigious 100 year old secondary education Grammar school in Newbridge, UK. With over 700 students and a rich historical heritage, WGHS’ excellent academic reputation makes it one of the most desirable schools in the country.

The school wanted to preserve its historical legacy whilst moving into the future, so decided on a Xirrus wireless system that required much less cabling than a wired alternative. Connecting the school wirelessly enables concurrent students to access the network, providing the online resources required for a variety of courses in the curriculum, allowing for a richer lesson plan.

"Wolverhampton Girls’ High School is set in a very beautiful and old building," explained Sharon Holness, Assistant Headteacher. "It was important to us to get a wireless solution in place that would be sympathetic to the surroundings. The Xirrus engineers conducted in-depth surveys around the school and were thorough and professional."

As technology develops, it has become increasingly important for schools to maintain a reliable wireless solution that students and teachers can easily access. The Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend also continues to evolve with students preferring to use their own laptops, tablets and smartphones, making it harder for schools to solely rely on desktop classes and wired systems.

"The Xirrus engineers have been true to their word," Holness said. "Overall, we’ve been very pleased with the product and the service that we’ve had from Xirrus."
