Vigil@nce - Qemu: information disclosure via VGA Emulator

September 2014 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

A local attacker can read a memory fragment of VGA Emulator of
Qemu, in order to obtain sensitive information.

Impacted products: Fedora, Unix (platform)

Severity: 1/4

Creation date: 08/09/2014

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The Qemu product offers a VGA graphic emulator.

However, the hw/display/vga.c and ui/spice-display.c files do not
correctly manage the display size, and do not initialize a memory
area before returning it to the user.

A local attacker can therefore read a memory fragment of VGA
Emulator of Qemu, in order to obtain sensitive information.
