Two new ultrasound authentication solutions for Cyber Security introduced by CopSonic at FinDEVr San Francisco

October 2014 by Marc Jacob

During the FinDEVr event at San Franscisco that took place on 30 September and the 1st of October 2014, the startup CopSonic introduced a serious solution for secured access through 2 use cases: GateSonic and PhonicAccess. This ultrasonic based authentication technology can turn any mobile device into a secure electronic key to access private information or desktop sessions.

CopSonic is specialized in the development of its sonic and ultrasonic communication protocol. With this ultrasonic authentication solution, CopSonic proposes to all attending technicians, developers and other innovation specialists an immediate response to their quest for a universal passwordless secure authentication method.

A universal authentication solution for cyber security

GateSonic and PhonicAccess are two use cases which turn mobile devices into electronic keys to grant access to private spaces or information (for instance bank account). Powered by the CopSonic technology, they enable the exchange of one time passwords encrypted within ultrasonic waves. The use of ultrasonic waves enables this solution to be compatible with any device carrying microphones and/or speakers.

GateSonic is an application based solution developed for smartphone users, available for all major platforms (Android, Windows Phone, iOS, Java…).
On the other hand, PhonicAccess is a universal solution working on all 7.2 billion phones currently existing worldwide, feature phones included. The authentication is achieved through a phone call working on all GSM networks.

Both solutions avoid users to enter passwords on their computer when entering their private space. The introduction of an airgap within the authentication process as well as the use of unique OTPs encrypted within ultrasound turn the CopSonic ultrasonic authentication solution into nowadays best anti-phishing solution possible.

Development perspectives

All FinDEVr attendees immediately agreed on the potential of this authentication protocol. It was only a small step for these professionals to extend the use of the CopSonic sonic and ultrasonic communication protocol to all other possible uses cases.

Indeed, as all phones and connected smart devices are compatible, CopSonic offers new perspectives for mobile payment, security access and retail services.
