Russian Hackers target Donald Trump
June 2016 by Grayson Milbourne, Security Intelligence Director at Webroot
Following the news that Russian Hackers have targeted the Democratic National Committee to gain information on Donald Trump – The commentary from Grayson Milbourne, security intelligence director at Webroot.
“This was a major compromise, and more concerning is that the DNC and other US government groups know they are in the crosshairs of cyber espionage. The confirmation that Russia was behind both attacks is not surprising. However, there could have been much worse outcomes from a breach by hackers, or by the political opposition – Cybergate!
While full details of the breach haven’t been made public, both Russian hacking groups operated independently with a high level of technique and sophistication. Using common Windows applications to control compromised computers, hackers were able to evade detection.
Clearly, cyber threat intelligence sharing and actionable, real-time threat intelligence with higher accuracy is required to counter the ever changing cyber threat landscape. Cybersecurity must continue to evolve to help the DNC and other organizations because the rate of polymorphic malware is faster than many traditional security technologies can keep up with today.”
