Dr Jamie Graves, CEO at cyber security specialists ZoneFox comments, "HipChat, a software that many employees use to communicate with colleagues and bosses, was hacked over the weekend. And in some instances, private messages were infiltrated meaning potentially highly sensitive information was accessed.
“This is a classic example of sensitive company information being accessed by cyber criminals and it’s again a warning sign to businesses that they must have the right measures in place to prevent and detect this type of threat. With an increase in attacks across multiple platforms used in the workplace, we all need to remain as vigilant as possible and pay close attention to the security dangers that lurk both in and outside businesses.
“Organisations must ensure they have visibility and control their data, this includes clarity around how their employees, third-party vendors and any other group with access to sensitive company information are using it - at all times. Such an approach goes a long way to ensuring that a breach such as this one is identified and dealt with as quickly as possible.”
