Corero Network Security Names Dave Larson Chief Technology Officer and Vice President, Product

May 2014 by Marc Jacob

Corero Network Security announced the appointment of 20-year industry veteran, Dave Larson to its management team as Chief Technology Officer and Vice President, Product. In this role, Larson will direct the Corero technology and product strategy as the company continues to execute its plan to deliver next-generation DDoS attack and cyber threat defense solutions for the service provider and hosting provider markets. At Corero, Larson will leverage his engagement with Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), Cloud and OpenStack initiatives for continued innovation and the development of secure networking technology.

Earlier this year, Corero unveiled the SmartWall™ Threat Defense System (TDS) which enables service providers to offer always on threat protection and visibility as a service to their customers. Larson will be tasked with the continued expansion of the SmartWall TDS to deliver industry-leading DDoS and cyber threat protection to the company’s customers around the world. Additionally, Larson will charter the Corero Customer Advisory Council as a forum for the exchange of information on industry trends, business drivers, customer issues and market opportunities, ensuring Corero product development priorities continue to align with customer needs.

Larson has deep experience in the data communication, data center infrastructure and network security industries. Most recently, Larson served as Chief Technology Officer for HP Networking and Vice President of the HP Networking Advanced Technology Group. In this role he was responsible for creating the long-term technology vision and strategy for HP Networking across a variety of product divisions and geographies. Larson was instrumental in establishing HP’s leadership in SDN including driving the creation of the OpenDaylight open source SDN controller initiative as one of the founding executive sponsors of that consortium along with technology leaders from Cisco, IBM, NEC, Citrix and the Linux Foundation. Under Larson’s leadership, HP created the category for SDN security applications for enterprises as evidenced by the HP Network Protector SDN Application, which combines IP-reputation DNS security with HP’s Virtual Application Networks SDN Controller to deliver botnet command-and-control and malware mitigation at the first touch point in the Ethernet access layer. Previously, Larson served as Chief Technologist for security and routing, and was a senior member of the Advanced Technology Group within HP Networking.

Prior to HP, Larson held the position of Vice President of Integrated Product Strategy for TippingPoint, where he was instrumental in transitioning the business to develop a line of Next-Generation Firewalls. As Vice President of Security Product Line Management for 3Com Corporation he defined the global security products strategy across R&D development facilities in the U.S., U.K., and China.

Larson has also held senior marketing and product roles with Tizor Systems, Sandburst Corporation and Xedia Corporation. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Gordon College in Wenham, Mass.
