Clavister Launches WiFi Access Gateway Solutions

November 2016 by Marc Jacob

Clavister has as of launched a new WiFi Access Gateway product range, addressing the increasing needs for quality of experience, service differentiation and threat prevention in WiFi networks.

According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Forecast, 50% of all global Internet traffic will be provided through WiFi connections by 2020, an increase from 42% in 2015. The total amount of data that is estimated to be transferred over WiFi networks by 2020 alone is an incredible 1.15 ZB (zettabytes), which is more or less the same amount of data that has traversed the Internet since its creation.

One of the clear trends on the WiFi market is the substantial growth of public WiFi hotspots in city centers, malls, stadiums, airports, train stations, stores and other urban locations. Again, according to the Cisco VNI Forecast, the number of hotspots will increase from 64 million in 2015 to 433 million by 2020, a sevenfold increase. An emerging trend as well is the enablement of so-called ‘homespots’, where broadband subscribers are allowing parts of the capacity of their WiFi residential gateway to be open to public use. China, France and Japan will lead in total number of homespots by 2020.

With the increased utilization of public WiFi hotspots, there is a growing demand placed on WiFi service providers to ensure service availability, high quality and capacity as well as a providing a solid protection against security threats.

With the new line of WiFi Access Gateways from Clavister, service providers can, for the first time, deploy a scalable and highly efficient solution for meeting these requirements. Based on the high-performing and feature-rich Clavister cOS Core software, the Clavister WiFi Access Gateway product line allows WiFi service providers to monetize their offering by adding new revenue streams and enhancing the overall customer experience. The WiFi service providers are able to schedule resources in the WiFi network based on users and applications, create multiple service levels for a differentiated pricing structure and, seamlessly integrated within the same network node, deploy security functions normally never found in a WiFi Access Gateway type of product.

The new WiFi Access Gateway product is available in several appliance-based form factors as well as in a fully virtualized option for edge-cloud or datacenter deployments.

Recommended retail price of the product range spans from 2,000 USD up to 40,000 USD based on model, capacity and configuration. A typical customer deployment scenario entails one WiFi Access Gateway node per each ten to thousands of hotspots, depending on the location and type of service provided.
