AdaptiveMobile now enables Advanced Messaging Classification for mobile operators

February 2017 by Marc Jacob

AdaptiveMobile announced the release of advanced messaging classification capabilities for mobile operators and aggregators. These classification capabilities provide enhanced differentiation between the various types of commercial A2P generated messaging and consumer messaging, opening up new billing and revenue opportunities for aggregators and operators worldwide.

For many operators, the connection agreements between their networks and those of peering partners – which enable billing and settlement for message termination – are structured primarily for P2P traffic. This can mean operators who receive large volumes of A2P messages that are funneled through P2P channels are not able to distinguish between the two traffic types – either to deliver different quality of service or improved commercial options. AdaptiveMobile’s Messaging Revenue Protection enables aggregators and operators to gain a measured understanding of the nature of the messaging traffic flowing over their network for the first time and ensure that grey traffic revenue is recovered by active control of messages through the most appropriate channels.

Using in-network controls the AdaptiveMobile Network Protection Platform (NPP) can identify, categorise and control this traffic. The NPP provides a range of additional capabilities, such as source reputation and behaviour profiling, that detect evasion techniques of those A2P senders who are seeking to bypass common detection methods. These functions enable operators to determine whether a message is classified properly, ultimately protecting their current and future messaging business. These capabilities provide, as well as go beyond the CTIA’s new messaging guidelines designed to meet the needs of a changing messaging ecosystem – one that recognises the difference between person to person (P2P) and application to person (A2P) communications.

AdaptiveMobile was one of the first companies to provide solutions to its customers to identify and control grey traffic. With the CTIA guidelines, the industry is realizing the necessity for P2P and A2P messages to be identified and appropriately handled to enable the mobile ecosystem to continue to grow. The Company identifies operators are each losing between $2 to $50 million a year from fraudulent grey traffic, and is assisting operators in validating the specific losses present in their networks.
