Vigil@nce - Quagga: denial of service via route announce

November 2012 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker may send a malicious IPv6 route announcement to Quagga
in order to stop it.

 Impacted products: Quagga
 Severity: 2/4
 Creation date: 13/11/2012

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The product Quagga Routing Suite implements OSPF routing for IPv6.

However, when a neighbour router announces to a router running
Quagga a route with a network prefix length greater than 64 bits,
the ospf6d daemon detects an assertion failure and stops.

An attacker may therefore send a malicious IPv6 route announcement
to Quagga in order to stop it.
