Vigil@nce - Linux kernel: information disclosure via x25_negotiate_facilities

May 2016 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

A local attacker can read a memory fragment of
x25_negotiate_facilities() on the Linux kernel, in order to obtain
sensitive information.

Impacted products: Linux.

Severity: 1/4.

Creation date: 11/05/2016.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The Linux kernel implements the X25 protocol.

However, the x25_negotiate_facilities() function of the
net/x25/x25_facilities.c file does not initialize a memory area
before returning it to the user.

A local attacker can therefore read a memory fragment of
x25_negotiate_facilities() on the Linux kernel, in order to obtain
sensitive information.
