Vigil@nce - GnuPG: buffer overflow of gpgme

August 2014 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can generate a buffer overflow in gpgme of GnuPG, in
order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.

Impacted products: GnuPG

Severity: 1/4

Creation date: 31/07/2014

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The GnuPG product includes a tool named gpgme, used for instance
for mail signature.

However, in the source code, the variables that records the size
of a dynamically allocated buffer and the variables that records
the size of handled data are not consistent. So the buffer size
does not match the size of actually handled data.

An attacker can therefore generate a buffer overflow in gpgme of
GnuPG, in order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to
execute code.
