Vigil@nce - Cisco Web Security Appliance: Cross Site Scripting of HTTP

August 2015 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can trigger a Cross Site Scripting in the HTTP
response headers from Cisco Web Security Appliance, in order to
execute JavaScript code in the context of the web site.

Impacted products: AsyncOS, Cisco WSA.

Severity: 2/4.

Creation date: 22/06/2015.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The Cisco Web Security Appliance product offers a web interface.

However, it does not filter received data before inserting them in
generated HTTP response headers. So one can inject additional HTTP
response headers, and possibly a response body, that may include
scripts.

An attacker can therefore trigger a Cross Site Scripting in the
HTTP response headers from Cisco Web Security Appliance, in order
to execute JavaScript code in the context of the web site.
