VMware Carbon Black Cloud Point of Presence Launches in United Kingdom

June 2022 by Marc Jacob

VMware is announcing the general availability of VMware Carbon Black Cloud’s point of presence (PoP) in the United Kingdom. The PoP will deliver cloud native endpoint and workload protection for customers that need to meet the UK government’s Cyber Essentials Plus requirements, while providing peace of mind for all UK customers who require their telemetry data to remain resident within the UK.

Ensuring that all solutions providers meet Cyber Essentials Plus standards is a legislated requirement for many regulated sectors and industries such as the UK government. It’s also of significant interest for industries that hold sensitive data including personal health data and financial data.

“The launch of our UK PoP reinforces VMware’s commitment to deliver end-to-end security to our customers, while also ensuring those in highly regulated industries like government, healthcare and financial services can keep their data within the confines of the UK,” said Jan Lawford, senior director of EMEA Security Sales. “We understand that our customers require secure, sovereign environments and the opening of our UK PoP is a step forward in both protecting organisations from modern-day cyber attacks and meeting their cloud sovereignty needs.

The UK point of presence will be the first PoP entirely built on VMware’s Cloud Services Platform (CSP). This allows customers to access VMware Carbon Black Cloud from VMware’s unified Cloud Services Console, standardising VMware Carbon Black Cloud with other solutions used by VMware customers and partners. It also provides a standardised user experience with enhanced identity and access management capabilities, which include:
• Configuring SAML 2.0 identity federation with an expanded set of providers, including Microsoft Azure Active Directory and Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS)
• Group-based RBAC for user management and role assignment
• Configuring API access to VMware Carbon Black Cloud via OAuth 2.0 Apps

Most of today’s cyber attacks now encompass tactics such as lateral movement, island hopping and destructive attacks. By analysing more than 1 trillion security events per day, VMware Carbon Black Cloud proactively uncovers attackers’ behaviour patterns and empowers defenders to detect and stop emerging attacks. VMware Carbon Black Cloud continuously collects endpoint activity data to better analyse attackers’ behaviour patterns to detect and stop never-seen-before attacks. This data then feeds into VMware Contexa, a full-fidelity threat intelligence capability that observes the breadth of VMware’s network, endpoint, and user technologies.

With the launch of this new instance, global PoPs for VMware Carbon Black Cloud now span the UK, North America, Germany, Japan, and Australia.
