TrustPort Management 4.0 is out on the market

July 2010 by Marc Jacob

In recent days, TrustPort has released a new version of TrustPort Management, the central administration for its security products TrustPort Antivirus Business and TrustPort PC Security Business. TrustPort Management enables remote installation and control of antivirus software on networked computers. The new version introduces a brand new user interface and many new functions. It becomes an excellent choice for effective deployment of security software in computer networks of all extents.

TrustPort Management is a free supplement to TrustPort Antivirus Business and TrustPort PC Security Business. Thanks to this software, network administrators need not install and configure the security program on each individual workstation; they can perform these operations conveniently, using one interface, for multiple workstations at the same time. TrustPort Management allows the sorting of computers into groups, which can then be assigned various settings.

At first glance, the user will note a significant change in the management interface. All operations, which are performed by central management, are categorized into common tabs. The home tab displays the basic statistics; other tabs enable the searching of workstations and placing them under the central management console. One can also set up detailed security policies and plan tasks for these workstations, for instance automated software installation, regular antivirus scanning or virus samples update.

TrustPort Management consists of a server component, which needs to be installed first, and a client component. Installation of the client component on the workstations is a precondition for further operations with them. Searching for new computers and placing them under the central management console is fortunately very easy in the new version. It is possible to search by entering a range of network addresses, by using the active directory service or by uploading a file with a list of network addresses.

Central management is controlled via a web interface, which means that it can be accessed from any computer in the network or even in the internet. Any number of administrator and auditor accounts may be defined. When starting to work with TrustPort Management, the network administrator can take advantage of the default security policies or create entirely new policies, derived from the default ones. In the latter case, the administrator has a chance of a totally specific configuration.
