The Cyrius Cybersecurity Checklist for a serene departure on holidays

June 2022 by Cyrius

The advent of digital has made technologies fundamental in our daily life. All data, from the most important to the most insignificant, are stored there. Digital becomes a real gold mine for hackers who carry out numerous targeted cyberattacks with the aim of harvesting data belonging to others. In order to fight against this phenomenon, Cyrius, the new cybersecurity coach, delivers his best advice to put in place before leaving on vacation.

At the head of this project, Achille Morin-Lemoine, Louis Leoni and Paul-Henri Hersen imagine the new effective and easy-to-use cyber protection tool. Launched last june, it allows companies to protect themselves and give to their employees the right reflexes to avoid cyberattacks at the heart of current concerns.

Going on holidays is usually conducive to increased hacking. Indeed, they are often synonymous with new places, new wifi connections and numerous online payments. To avoid any cyberattack, here are the right things to do according to cybersecurity coach, Cyrius :

1. Not announcing your departure on social networks. This may seem trivial but, in reality, these platforms store all your information. After an announcement of this type there is a greater risk of receiving more specific phishing emails such as “Reset your Airbnb password” or a link to a “Top 3 activities to do” in the destination mentioned. These emails are actually fraudulent and allow hackers to access personal data. In case of doubt, Cyrius has set up a chatbot accessible to everyone in order to check the URL of the site.

2. Once there, Cyrius suggests connecting to wifi only using a VPN. This protection tool makes it possible to avoid protecting yourself from fake wifi or easily hackable networks, which are likely to implant a virus.

3. Stay alert to fraudulent online payments. When paying for on-site activities, it is important to activate payment confirmation with your bank on your smartphone to avoid the theft of bank data.

4. Even if the need for a computer may resurface during his trip, it is strongly advised not to use a public computer. Achille Morin-Lemoine, co-founder of Cyrius, explains : “When connecting via a public computer, there is a risk that a keylogger, a computer virus that can record the sequences of keystrokes typed on a keyboard, is installed. Identifiers or credit card numbers can then be saved and retrieved very easily”.

5. Before leaving, a backup of your data on an external hard drive left at home is also recommended.

In the event that these tips have not been correctly applied, it is always possible to contact Cyrius and bookmark their free hotline which allows you to ask more specific questions against cyberattacks.
