Telefónica and Panda Security provide Bankinter with a security solution for its clients’ online transactions

March 2008 by Emmanuelle Lamandé

Telefónica’s Key Account Unit will provide Bankinter a security service for clients’ online transactions through Panda Security for Internet Transactions, a security solution specifically designed for financial entities and online payment platforms. This is a joint service that will be offered from Telefónica’s security operations center (SOC) and will complement Telefónica’s current antifraud services, which Bankinter has been enjoying for some years now (Anti-phishing service).

According to Bankinter, some 55.6 percent of its transactions are carried out online. The priority goal of Telefónica and Panda Security will be to guarantee the security of all these operations, by ensuring that clients who access Bankinter’s e-banking services are free from known malware, and in particular, from banker Trojans that target this company. This type of malicious code is one of the main threats to the security of online transactions.

The service that Bankinter is contracting from Telefónica and Panda will search for active malware in the memory of users’ computers when they are about to access the bank’s online services. Specifically, it detects viruses, worms, Trojans, hidden processes and other threats including, dialers, hacking tools, jokes, etc. This allows the bank to restrict access, in real-time, to certain operations if a user is infected, thereby minimizing the risk.

The contracted solution also includes the Targeted Attacks Alert Service, which enables companies in the financial sector to tackle the problem caused by Trojans designed specifically to target their company. This is a monitoring and notification service run by the PandaLabs Antifraud Surveillance Department and set up to warn clients of Trojans that have been designed to target them. It feeds on the analysis of information received from millions of end users with Panda anti-malware solutions.
