Sophos recognised as Endpoint Security Leader by industry analyst Ovum

April 2012 by Marc Jacob

Sophos announced that it has been positioned as a leader in Ovum’s latest ‘Decision Matrix’ industry report for endpoint security. The independent report is designed to help businesses select an endpoint security solution and assesses the top eight vendors in this area, categorising them into leaders, challengers and followers. Focusing on each vendor’s capabilities for detecting malware, taking feedback from end users and reporting on levels of customer satisfaction, the Ovum Decision Matrix (ODM) rates Sophos highly for both technology and customer service, the only vendor to do well in both areas.

According to Ovum: “Sophos is rated in the market leader segment. This status is earned by the all-around consistency of the company’s endpoint security products and their ability to support the business community. Particular areas of strength include the ability to provide active security on device and in the cloud, from where SophosLab’s analysts automate the delivery of policy and rule updates. The product’s anti-malware agent is optimised for virtualised environments, eliminating the need for extra-component deployment. The company’s customer satisfaction ratings for support and service were also outstanding.”

Andy Kellett, senior analyst at Ovum, added: “With the rise of BOYD, endpoint security has become a crucial business concern. The use of employee-owned devices within the business has increased the number of potential threats and the overall complexity of managing the IT estate. As such, it is important that vendors, like Sophos, are paying more attention to the efficiency of their endpoint security products as this has a considerable impact on user, device, and business protection.”

“Endpoint protection is no longer about merely protecting against viruses and spam – there are now far more threats to consider,” said Shaun Paice, vice president of product management at Sophos. “Our aim is to provide our customers with complete protection that’s simple and powerful – we’re delighted with the endorsement from Ovum which acknowledges both the strength of our technology and our commitment to customer support and service.”

Announced in December 2011, the latest version of Sophos’s endpoint product – Endpoint 10 – is designed to offer businesses complete protection against IT security threats. In addition to providing renowned antivirus protection, Endpoint 10 includes web filtering and security, patch assessment and encryption in a single product, greatly simplifying the process of defending corporate networks.
