Sony Introduces New 1/2.8” Camera

September 2022 by Marc Jacob

Responding to increasing demand in the market for superior imaging capabilities, Sony ISS has just announced the introduction of its latest camera block - the FCB-EV9520L.

Pivotal to this camera’s operation is the company’s 2MPixel STARVIS 2 image sensor. This exhibits elevated levels of sensitivity, with particularly strong enhancements within the NIR spectrum. Another important feature is the Super Stabilizer technology that has been incorporated. This enables exceptional image capture quality, even when the camera is subject to intense vibrational forces.

You can get the opportunity to see this new Sony camera in action, by attending Vision 2022 in Stuttgart Messe (4-6th October). It will be on display at the following distribution partners stands:

• Jencam GmbH - 8E40
• Twiga - 10F70 (in conjunction with the Twiga IF board)
• MaxxVision GmbH - 8D28

The FCB-EV9520L presents the market with an upgrade path for the widely used FCB-EV7520 series. As it retains exactly the same form factor (50mm x 60mm x 89.7mm dimensions), customers are provided with a drop-in replacement that makes integration straightforward and minimises the engineering effort involved.

This 1/2.8” camera will be able to address a broad array of different customer applications. These include high-end surveillance systems, off-line industrial inspection, medical imaging (for dental and surgical work), autonomous vehicles, remote control of drones/AGVs, shipborne systems, etc.

Sony’s new FCB-EV9520L camera is being shown ahead of its full commercial release in early 2023.
