Secunia joins the Information Security Forum

April 2011 by Marc Jacob

Secunia, provider of reliable and actionable Vulnerability Intelligence, Vulnerability Assessment, and Patch Management, today announced that it has become a member of the Information Security Forum (ISF); the world’s leading independent authority on best practice in the field of information risk management. Secunia thereby joins the ISF’s international association of around 300 leading, security-focused global companies and public sector organisations.

The ISF applies its world-renowned expertise to educate organisations about understanding and recognising information risks within their environments in order to initiate effective planning and response, and thereby develop and implement effective security programmes. The ISF’s insights and best practice standards and tools are embedded in its unique supporting model of core principles: six steps covering governance, risk, compliance, people, process, and technology.

Secunia believes that, with vulnerability threats spreading through all IT departments, it is imperative that IT operations include Vulnerability & Patch Management as a critical component of their daily operations, and align this strategy with their core business.

By joining the ISF, Secunia also further commits to helping resolve IT security challenges, particularly the threat posed by vulnerabilities in third-party software, which can compromise entire IT infrastructures if left unpatched. In return, Secunia thereby gains access to ISF’s comprehensive knowledge hub, valuable research reports, risk methodologies, and benchmarking tools; and also gains the opportunity to collaborate with industry peers.

Secunia is dedicated to raising awareness of the increasing challenges and risks posed by vulnerabilities – as documented in the Secunia Yearly Report 2010 and quarterly Secunia Security factsheets – and therefore aims to combat the stereotype that IT security issues belong outside of the boardroom. Secunia’s role in the IT security sphere is helping organisations strategise their handling of the vulnerability threat by making it possible to seamlessly integrate optimised Vulnerability Intelligence, Vulnerability Management, and Patch Management as part of overall risk assessment and management, and compliance policies.
