Prolexic Adds Another Household Name to DDoS Protection Client List: Santa Claus
December 2012 by Marc Jacob
Prolexic Technologies, the specialiize in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection services, today announced that it recently signed a contract to protect the website of Santa Claus against an increasing number of malicious DDoS attacks.
Along with e-Commerce firms, Santa’s website has long been a favorite seasonal target for mean-spirited DDoS attackers. However, Santa’s team of ET (Elf Technology) professionals has always been able to mitigate DDoS attacks in its workshop. This November everything changed.
“We received so many requests on the site that performance suffered, and it eventually crashed,” said Inna Openslae, happiness director at Santa Enterprises. “At first we thought it was just kids getting an early start on their Christmas lists, but we soon realized that this was naughty, not nice.”
Openslae immediately began researching DDoS protection firms and selected Prolexic based on its proven success mitigating the world’s largest, most complex DDoS attacks. Santa insisted on traveling personally from the North Pole to Prolexic’s sunny Florida corporate headquarters to sign the contract.
“We provide DDoS protection to many leading brands around the world, but as far as household names go, it’s hard to top Santa Claus,” said Stuart Scholly, president of Prolexic. “Santa believes in Prolexic, and if there were any non-believers working here before, there aren’t any now.”
“This situation goes beyond major attacks on financial services companies in 2012,” sputtered a flustered Santa. “The hackers that targeted my site could have ruined Christmas for more than two billion people!”
Since working with Prolexic, Santa’s website has not experienced any performance issues and has remained online, despite being targeted by many significant infrastructure and application layer DDoS attacks. Prolexic has shared the details of all attacking IP addresses with Santa. “I’m making a list and checking it twice,” said Santa. “I know who’s been naughty and who’s been nice.”
“This year has been characterized by increasingly larger DDoS attacks, often in excess of 20 Gbps,” said Scott Hammack, chief executive officer at Prolexic. “Our Security Operations Center is on watch 24/7 to ensure all is calm and all is bright this holiday season. Happy Holidays to all and to all a good night!”
