OPEN DATA CENTER ALLIANCE welcomes new Australian adopter membres

February 2013 by Marc Jacob

The Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA) welcomed Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) and Telstra as new adopter members. The addition of these two members reinforces the strong commitment both organisations have to a standard cloud across geographies, and adds to the strong Australian representation within the ODCA.

As adopter members, both organisations will have an opportunity to participate in ODCA Roadmap reviews and utilise the ODCA’s usage models to guide their data centre purchase and planning decisions. Participation in the ODCA will help CBA and Telstra to assess and apply new technologies as they relate to the cloud with the unique requirements of their customers.

"We are thrilled to welcome two of Australia’s most iconic companies to the ODCA as adopter members,” said Marvin Wheeler, Executive Director of the Open Data Center Alliance. “Based on their extensive experience in delivering innovative, best-in-class services to their customers, CBA and Telstra will play a valuable role in helping the ODCA develop standard requirements for cloud computing. Furthermore, the addition of CBA and Telstra reflect the ODCA’s ongoing commitment to representing different industries in the Alliance."

"We are excited to be part of the ODCA as it provides us with the opportunity to connect with our global peers and share key learnings and best practices for adopting cloud technologies," said Stuart Smith, Director Cloud Services, Telstra. “As a provider of a complete portfolio of cloud computing, storage and applications services delivered across Australia’s largest telecommunications network, our focus is to deliver best in market solutions that help our customers grow their business. Engaging with our peers from a variety of industries will help us to continue to innovate and increase the depth and breadth of our offerings resulting in tremendous benefits to our customers.”

“CBA is committed to providing the finest financial services to help all Australians who need to build and manage their finances, through wiser spending, saving, investment and insurance decisions. Our world-leading application of technology plays a crucial part in building this value with customers,” said Michael Harte, Group Executive and Chief Information Officer, Commonwealth Bank of Australia. “Our financial services group is highly regarded for its real time value and decision support that provides convenience and value through personal smart devices, and is backed by the most reliable and secure infrastructure services - our advocacy of cloud and the potential benefits for our employees and customers is a priority - that’s why we are actively involved in industry organisations, such as the ODCA, which help to set standards and accelerate innovation to deliver faster more efficient rich services on demand, not just for ourselves but for broader industry interests and economic benefit.”

The membership of the Alliance continues to grow globally as companies recognise the need for a common voice in the expansion and development of cloud computing requirements. A full list of ODCA members can be found here: www.opendatacenteralliance.org/membership.
