National Crime Agency comments on "losing the cyber arms race" - Comments from Arbor
July 2016 by Richard Brown, Director EMEA Channels & Alliances at Arbor Networks
Following the news on how the National Crime
Agency has stated that businesses are losing the "cyber arms race", Richard Brown, Director EMEA Channels & Alliances at Arbor Networks, comments:
"Today’s news from the National Crime Agency highlights why organisations cannot be
complacent in today’s threat landscape. Hackers and cybercriminals innovate quickly,
and continue to stay one step ahead of many organisations that rely purely on
preventative or reactive security measures.
"While there is a definite skills shortage in the UK, organisations must adopt a
more proactive orientation to cybersecurity to utilise their ’human’ resources more
efficiently. As well as this, organisations must ensure that all employees - not
just those in the IT department - are trained on the threat landscape, and the
processes that are in place to deal with them. Non-IT staff are often the weak link
for attackers to gain access to the network or to valuable information.
"More often than not, having the right preparation, people and processes in place is
more important than having the latest preventative technology."
