Malaysia Mounts Significant initiative on Data Centres as S.E. Asian Market Growth is forecast

December 2010 by Marc Jacob

A significant new initiative in Malaysia as a location for data centres and cloud services, will be highlighted by the inaugural Data Centre Regional Summit to be held in Kuala Lumpur 26-27 January.

For the first time, the leadership of the data centre sector in Malaysia will meet in one location to discuss the future opportunities and forward strategy for the country as a data centre location and outsourcing hub for international enterprises. The summit will include current availability, data centre efficiency, security, cloud services, planning, power availability and pricing, governance and costs.

In the first regional south east Asia summit Malaysia will showcase the benefits and opportunities it holds as an international centre for data centres. Attended by representatives of government institutions, local data centre operators, international firms engaged in the data centre sector, investors, CIOs and IT decision makers, the event with high content and networking values and is supported by an industry exhibition.

A new report by BroadGroup reveals that demand for data centre services and facilities is expected to remain robust in south-east Asia, but that there will be increased competition between Singapore and Malaysia in particular as critical locations.

“Malaysia could well see data centre space more than double over the next four to five years,” commented Steve Wallage, managing director of BroadGroup Consulting.

“We believe that this inaugural event will provide an excellent platform to bring together companies interested in evaluating Malaysia through an independent perspective of the market, its leading players and initiatives underway to encourage enterprises to place
their IT outsourcing needs in the country and an expert speaker academy.”

Speakers at the event include the leadership of MSC and will also include VADs (Telekom Malaysia) Amazon Web Services, APC by Schneider Electric, HP, Cisco, salesforce.com, Green Grid, Powerware Systems, HDC Data Centre, CSF Group, Basis Bay, AIMS, Digital Realty Trust, International Data Centre Group, Strateq, Freenet, C2 Consult, BLIC Consulting and BroadGroup Consulting.

The event is supported by sponsors including MSC Malaysia, VADs, Powerware Systems, HDC, CSF Group, Basis Bay, International Data Centre Group, Strateq, ADC, Anixter, Freenet, C2 Consult, and Globeron. The official media partner for the event is Data Centre News Search.
