Data blocks sent by the system to disk are simply retrieved and copied to the mirror disk. There is therefore no need to trawl the first disk looking for modified blocks to then recopy these blocks to a second disk.

This mirror technology is extremely simple, guarantees block-mode protection with a very low impact on protected server loads.

Impact is so low that protection can be performed in real time (CDP: Continuous Data Protection). The Synerway Appliance mirror synchronizes in real time, something block mode protection using a file trawling technology will not allow.

Similarly, to manage protected data history, snapshots of this data are performed at regular intervals on the Synerway Appliance mirror. This technology does not impact the protected server load in any way.

These snapshots use Copy On Write technology for data blocks modified between versions which performs a highly effective near-instantaneous data deduplication.

The volume of all the historical snapshots (the equivalent of all incremental data for standard backups) typically represents between 20% and 40% of protected data volume compared to several times this amount for a history of standard incremental backups.
