Huawei Releases Industry’s First Terabit-level Cloud-based Integrated Security Gateway

February 2017 by Marc Jacob

Today at RSA Conference 2017, Huawei released the industry’s first terabit-level cloud integrated security gateway, USG9000V. This product is designed to provide high-performance, easy-to-manage, and comprehensive software-based virtual network security protection in order to meet the needs of simple security service deployment, rapid service rollout, flexible capacity expansion, and efficient O&M – thus helping enterprises improve cloud-based security capabilities.

A software product deployed on the cloud, Huawei USG9000V security gateway is compatible with mainstream cloud platforms throughout the industry and provides abundant security services for customers’ virtual networks. Using the cloud-based architecture with separate control and forwarding, and based on the NE’s distributed load balancing forwarding architecture, the USG9000V implements single-NE flexible scale-out and scale-in, supports a maximum of 128 VMs in a cluster, and provides up to 2.5 Tbps forwarding capabilities. In addition, it supports status backup between service processing units to meet high availability requirements of the enterprise. Through centralized management on the control plane, the USG9000V can manage the configurations of 128 VMs and schedule pool-based resources for the VMs, reducing service management difficulties.

Cloud-based services pose higher requirements from Enterprises for automated deployment, performance scalability, and O&M intelligence. "Cloud computing inherently features distributed architecture and scattered resource distribution. If there is no unified scheduling, resources cannot be effectively used, and services are delayed and performance is deteriorated; therefore making optimal TCO is impossible," said Liu Lizhu, general manager of the Security Gateway Domain in Huawei Switch & Enterprise Gateway Product Line.

The automated delivery of security services has become the key to ensuring that users’ ever-changing demands are met. If a service changes, the USG9000V can interwork with the MANO to trigger elastic scale-out or scale-in and automatically adjust resource configuration, achieving service scale-out or scale-in within minutes. Self-service configuration reduces over 90% of manual configuration workloads, and the USG9000V can scale-out or scale-in on demand even if services frequently change, meeting cloud-based service elasticity requirements and reducing the OPEX.

Huawei USG9000V will be available in Q2 2017.
