How AI can be used to prevent risk of violence at schools - Tech expert provides 3 tips

May 2023 by Experts

Here are three security tips that schools need to know on how AI can prevent risk:

Security Tip #1: Use existing resources and implement AI technology when able Schools operate with limited budgets and resources. However, one thing many schools already have in place are security cameras. AI technology can be implemented using most existing security cameras to instantly detect threats to students and staff. AI algorithms like Threat Awareness Technology can be used to identify individuals carrying weapons and alert school security personnel in real-time.

Security tip #2: AI Predictive Analytics AI predictive analytics when used for school safety can help prevent a threat from arising all together. The algorithms can analyze data from various sources, including social media, student records and incident reports, to identify potential threats before they escalate. For example, predictive analytics can be used to monitor social media for signs of cyberbullying or threats of violence and alert school administrators to take action before any harm is done.

Security Tip #3: License plate detection with AI License plate detection technology already helps a wide range of government and private entities control and monitor access to their installations. Having AI that’s able to pull against a database of registered and permitted vehicles can raise the alarm at the first sign that something is out of the ordinary.

AI technology is constantly evolving and growing, as are its capabilities. It is worth the time to research AI capabilities and see how they can help make schools safer. The more educated school administrators are on the AI capabilities that are available, and affordable, the more safety measures can be implemented to better protect our schools.

"Cybersecurity threats, physical security breaches, and the rising threat of active shooter incidents are serious concerns for schools. Conducting a security assessment is critical for identifying potential risks and vulnerabilities, and developing an effective security plan. However, the sheer amount of data involved in a comprehensive security assessment can be overwhelming as complex questions, often require complex answers, leading to potential gaps and vagueness in security protocols. This is where AI-powered threat detection comes in, providing advanced capabilities to analyze vast amounts of data in real-time, identify potential risks and vulnerabilities, all the while helping officials respond quickly and effectively to prevent harm from occurring. With incorporating AI into our school’s security assessments, we can stay ahead of evolving security threats and keep our students, staff, and communities safe,” explains Iterate.ai Co-Founder Brian Sathianathan.
