Gartner, Inc has positioned Sophos in the "Leaders" quadrant of its latest "Magic Quadrant for Mobile Data Protection."

September 2012 by Marc Jacob

Gartner, Inc has positioned Sophos in the "Leaders" quadrant of its latest "Magic Quadrant for Mobile Data Protection."* The quadrant is based on an assessment of a company’s ability to execute and completeness of vision.

According to Gartner, "Leaders have products that work well for Gartner clients in small and large deployments. They have long-term road maps that follow and/or influence Gartner’s vision of the developing needs of buyers in the market. Leaders make their competitors’ sales staffs nervous and force competitors’ technical staffs to follow their lead. Their MDP (mobile data protection) products are well-known to clients and are frequently found on RFP shortlists."

Sophos continues to strengthen its market-leading data protection and mobile offerings, and earlier this year introduced the latest versions of Sophos SafeGuard Enterprise and Sophos Mobile Control. With the industry’s first enterprise cloud encryption capabilities, Sophos SafeGuard protects critical data in public, private and hybrid cloud environments. SafeGuard automatically encrypts files uploaded to the cloud from any managed endpoint, quickly and easily, allowing secure file access from anywhere. More importantly, SafeGuard ensures that all files remain encrypted regardless if copied or moved to another drive, network or device.

With these innovations, Sophos has differentiated itself from vendors offering traditional data protection that merely encrypt hard drives. With its advanced data protection, Sophos protects relevant enterprise data wherever it is being stored.

As stated in the report, "Gartner clients know that data leakage can cost them money and their reputations, and eventually most companies will make MDP investments, whether they are small or large enterprises, or bound by compliance rules or not. They will make those purchases faster when the solutions are easy to understand and manage, easy to use, and priced affordably."

"We believe this latest recognition is testament to our continued advancements in both data protection and mobile device security, and to the market’s subsequent response," said Matthias Pankert, vice president of Product Management, Mobile Data Protection, Sophos. "Mobile data protection is a cornerstone of our Complete Security strategy, which provides customers and partners with a truly compelling value proposition that incorporates endpoint, data, email, web, server and mobile protection."

Sophos was also positioned as a "Leader" in the 2012 Magic Quadrant for Unified Threat Management** and the 2012 Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms.***
