Fujitsu Comment: Over 1,000 cyberattacks in the UK last year
October 2017 by Rob Norris, VP Head of Enterprise & Cyber Security EMEIA at Fujitsu
It has been revealed today that more than 1,000 cyberattacks have been reported in the UK last year, with nearly two significant attacks per day.
The comment from Rob Norris, VP Head of Enterprise & Cyber Security EMEIA at Fujitsu, responded to the news:
“It is worrying to see the UK suffers nearly two significant cyber-attacks every day, with our government and health institutions being amongst those targeted. Cyber-attacks make a regular occurrence in today’s headlines, and with data fast becoming the new currency, any organisation that holds information is a target. There are no more excuses for neither businesses nor consumers to put cybersecurity on the backbench – we need to stay ahead when it comes to safeguarding our technology and be vigilant when it comes to our practices.
“As the number of these threats continue to increase exponentially, a proactive approach to security is vital for the survival of small and big businesses alike. Moreover, with the GDPR around the corner, businesses need to think about what data they need to protect, how to implement contingency measures, and establish clearly defined processes in how to detect and react to data breaches.
“In today’s world, cybercrime is inevitable. How businesses plan for it, however, is what makes a difference. Ensuring a compliant business environment, that will help protect the company and its employees, needs to be the number one priority.”
