ForeScout Recognised as a Visionary in 2010 Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control

July 2010 by Marc Jacob

ForeScout Technologies announced it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Visionary” quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control.”

The Gartner Magic Quadrant positioned 18 vendors based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute. The report highlighted “consumerisation of IT” as well as targeted botnet attacks as trends that are driving NAC adoption. According to Gartner: “Because employee-owned laptops or smartphones will typically not have corporate endpoint security software on them, stand-alone NAC capabilities will see higher demand.” *

The Gartner Magic Quadrant report also stated that “the increasing publicity around targeted malware has also caused increased demand for post-connect containment capabilities, but we have seen very limited demand for advanced identity-aware NAC capabilities, outside of the traditional high-security ‘belt and suspenders’ enterprises.”*

ForeScout was a pioneer of post-connect containment and currently includes post-connect containment in all of its NAC products. ForeScout’s patented ActiveResponse™ technology identifies and contains devices in real time that exhibit dangerous or threatening behaviour after they have been connected to the network.

Gartner estimates that “the size of the NAC market in 2009 was approximately $199 million, a decrease of approximately 10% over the market in 2008.”* Countering this trend, ForeScout has achieved record growth and market share gains. Following on double-digit revenue growth in 2009, ForeScout has seen 49% bookings growth in 1H 2010 compared with 1H 2009.
