FIC 2015 – Cyber Book Award bestowed on Frédérick Douzet, tenured Chairwoman of the Castex chair of Cyberstrategy

January 2015 by Marc Jacob

On January 20th, 2015, during the 7th edition of the International Cybersecurity Forum (FIC), the Cyber Book Prize of outstanding strategic reflection was awarded to Ms. Frédérick Douzet, Chairwoman of the Castex chair of Cyberstrategy and Professor at the French Institute of Geopolitics (Paris 8 University) by the rear admiral Arnaud Coustillière, for the n°152-153 issue of the review Hérodote, dedicated to « Cyberspace: geopolitical issues ».

This double issue of the review Hérodote addresses the geopolitical issues of cyberspace from the point of view of several disciplines – Geopolitics, Law, Computer Science, International Relations, and Political Science. The introduction by Frédérick Douzet demonstrates how and why the geopolitical methodology applies to cyberspace. The articles, written by 16 authors both European and American, broach topics as diverse as the consequences of the Snowden revelations, the complexities of the application of International Law to cyberspace, the concept of cyberterrorism, the cyberstrategy of Chinese, Europe, NATO and Russia, the economic stakes of espionage and data flows’ harnessing, the representations and cartography of cyberspace, and Internet governance. The issue includes an original and innovative cartography of these issues.

« I am very happy about this award, which I want to share with all the authors and the editorial board of Hérodote. This collective book, to which ten young researchers have contributed, demonstrates all the efficiency of the geopolitical methodology to analyze contemporary strategic challenges. This prize is both an acknowledgment of its relevance and a great honor », Mrs Douzet declared during the ceremony.
