June 2023 by Joseph Carson, Chief Security Scientist and Advisory CISO at Delinea
The US Government offering a $10 million bounty for information on the ransomware group ‘Clop’. Security expert, Joseph Carson offers comment on the one thing all ransomware groups try to avoid – being detected by governments, which is now what Clop are facing. The comment from Joseph Carson, Chief Security Scientist & Advisory CISO at Delinea.
“Bounties are not just for reporting on vulnerabilities, but also for intelligence that could lead to the unmasking of the identity of the ransomware gang and their operations. When ransomware gangs cause significant damage to businesses, with large financial costs, then governments will do what they can to take down cybercriminals.
The latest group in the crosshairs of the US Government are Clop ransomware group. One of the reasons why most ransomware gangs prefer to keep a low profile and target smaller victims is so they can avoid detection by governments - a fate now faced by Clop.”
