Dovel & Luner Files Lawsuit Against PGA Tour, Inc. and Fortinet Inc.

May 2022 by Marc Jacob

The Dovel & Luner law firm on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against PGA
TOUR, Inc. and Fortinet, Inc. for failing to compensate Plaintiff 1440 Sports Management Ltd. for its role
in creating the Fortinet Championship, a major golf tournament in Napa, California.
The Complaint, filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges
that PGA Tour and Fortinet broke their promises and were unjustly enriched after refusing to
compensate 1440 Sports for securing Fortinet as a sponsor for the PGA’s Napa golf tournament.

According to the Complaint, Ricky Paugh of 1440 Sports has “years of experience finding sponsors for
major sporting events.” Mr. Paugh “introduced the right people at Fortinet to the right people at PGA
Tour at the right time” which “led to a six-year, $50 million dollar+ commitment” between PGA Tour and
Fortinet.

The Complaint states: “Mr. Paugh has been compensated for each and every one of the introductions he
made that resulted in a sponsorship, except for one: the introduction of Defendant Fortinet to
Defendant PGA Tour which led to the Fortinet Championship sponsorship. Meanwhile, both Defendants
have reaped, and continue to reap, tens of millions of dollars in benefits.”
“Filing this Complaint is a significant step towards obtaining justice for 1440 Sports and holding PGA
Tour and Fortinet accountable,’’ said Simon Franzini of Dovel & Luner
