Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 earns recommended rating in NSS Labs Next-Generation Firewall Security Value Map for third consecutive year

September 2014 by Marc Jacob

Dell announced that its SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 next-generation firewall (NGFW), running SonicOS 6.0 and integrated Intrusion Prevention Service, again has earned the coveted Recommended rating in the NSS Labs 2014 Next-Generation Firewall Security Value Map. NSS Labs is one of the industry’s most influential third-party evaluators providing independent validation for IT administrators seeking the best-performing security products to protect their networks.

The Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive E10000 Next-Generation Firewall Series delivers effective firewall, intrusion prevention and deep security scaled to the largest networks-at multi-gigabit speeds, without the complexity of having to manage separate appliances, GUIs and deployments. It utilises Dell’s patented Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection® engine to detect and prevent the advanced evasion techniques used to conceal traditional intrusion attacks at all layers of the network stack. The solution uniquely scans every byte of every packet of inbound and outbound traffic, regardless of port and protocol, and delivers full content inspection of both plain text and SSL encrypted traffic.

Dell SonicWALL’s IPS adds to these deep security capabilities with advanced context awareness that includes geo-location visibility, user identification, and application identification. Dell SonicWALL next-generation firewalls also offer inspection and identification of documents and content, and can scan for administrator-specified custom content like text strings and credit card numbers.

News Facts:

Placement in the ‘Recommended’ quadrant is the highest rating given by NSS Labs. Based on the methodology, the program is one of the industry’s most comprehensive, real-world tests of next-generation firewalls. To achieve the ‘Recommended’ rating, the SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 NGFW:

· Demonstrated one of the highest security effectiveness ratings in the industry, with scores of 100 percent in stability and reliability, firewall, application control, and identity awareness tests

· Blocked 96.4 percent of attacks against server applications, 99.1 percent against client applications, and 97.9 percent overall

· Tested 100 percent effective in countering advanced evasion, obfuscation and fragmentation techniques

· Demonstrated scalability with 16.4 Gbps of threat protection performance and multi-gigabit SSL decryption and inspection throughput

· Affirmed its extremely high performing and scalable enterprise security platform to solve the largest of data centers’ security and massive data and capacity demands

The SonicWALL SuperMassive E10000 Series can be deployed as an inline bump-in-the-wire mode to provide an additional layer of security in an existing network without introducing complexity or requiring topology changes. It also can be deployed at the network perimeter, adding next-generation firewall threat prevention and security capabilities, and lowering Total Cost of Ownership by providing equipment consolidation and ease of use.

NSS Labs Report

“The Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 proved effective against all evasion techniques tested. During testing, the SuperMassive blocked 96.4 percent of attacks against server applications, 99.1 percent of attacks against client applications, and 97.9 percent overall. The Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive E10800 is rated by NSS at 16.4 Gbps, which is higher than the vendor-claimed performance (Dell rates this device at 12 Gbps).”
