The comment by Stephen Love, Security Practice Lead EMEA at
Insight on the findings of the just released Arbor Networks report, detailing the
DDoS and advanced threat landscape in 2016.
Stephen Love, Security Practice Lead EMEA at Insight comments:
"Arbor’s latest report revealing that the size of DDos attacks have increased by
1,233% in the past five years, demonstrates the issues with the security of Internet
of Things devices. With 53% of service providers experiencing more than 21 attacks
in a month, it’s clear that the emergence of IoT botnets has left its mark on the
threat landscape. At the same time, the findings of the report serve as a stark
reminder that the proliferation of internet-connected devices still poses
significant security challenges for businesses."
"To mitigate the possibilities of malicious attacks, organisations can implement
access-based controls to regulate what data can be seen by whom. In addition, they
should also look to encrypt data where possible and perform regular vulnerability
scans of their internal network. Unfortunately, security often remains an
afterthought, so it is little wonder these devices continue to be compromised."
