Canada adopts its first antispam Law
December 2010 by Marc Jacob
Today, Canada has adopted it’s very first antispam law. Canada is thereby aligning it’s policies with those of the other G8 countries that have taken a legal stand against spam.
This new law focuses on an important notion: explicit consent must be granted before any commercial email can be sent. Unsollicited commercial email are now prohibited and, if found guilty, offenders can be subjected to fines of up to 200 $ per message or 10 million $ per organization.
ZEROSPAM Security welcomes this new law but cautions that it probably won’t have much incidence on the volume of spam in circulation since Canada is far from being one of the top spam-sending countries. However, the law will have a huge impact on canadian emailing practices.
